The problem

For a Melbourne café, social media isn’t just a marketing channel — it’s often the first experience of the brand.

That was the challenge facing No.19. While the café had a clear point of view in-person — good food, good coffee, and a simple, honest approach — that same appeal wasn’t coming through online. In a city where café culture is both crowded and highly visual, their content wasn’t generating the level of attention or response the brand deserved.

A few factors were holding them back. Posting lacked consistency, the imagery didn’t have the polish audiences now expect from hospitality brands, and their social presence was limited to Facebook and Instagram. Together, that made it harder for No.19 to build momentum, stand out in the feed, or turn casual viewers into future customers.

The issue wasn’t the product. It was that the brand wasn’t showing up with enough consistency or cut-through to match it.

No.19 — campaign hero

The insight

Hospitality brands grow on social when they feel both aspirational and familiar.

People don’t follow cafés just for information — they follow them for atmosphere, taste, personality, and the feeling of wanting to go there next. For No.19, the opportunity wasn’t to overcomplicate the brand. It was to present its existing strengths in a way that felt more intentional, more contemporary, and more aligned with how people discover venues now.

We recognised that improving performance would come from two connected shifts:

  • Elevating the visual quality and consistency of the content
  • Expanding the format and platform mix to better match audience behaviour

Because in hospitality, attention doesn’t come from simply posting more.It comes from making the brand feel worth stopping for.

The strategy

Our approach was to build a more cohesive and engaging social presence — one that better reflected No.19’s food, atmosphere, and personality.

The strategy focused on refreshing how the brand appeared at a glance, while also improving the content mix to drive stronger interaction over time. That meant treating the feed not as a collection of standalone posts, but as a more considered brand experience.

At the same time, we saw an opportunity to expand beyond existing channels and meet potential customers where discovery is increasingly happening: short-form video and search-led social platforms.

The goal was simple — make No.19 feel more visible, more current, and more compelling to the kind of audience that chooses where to eat with their thumb before their feet.

The Execution

We began by refreshing the look and feel of No.19’s Instagram grid, improving the overall presentation so that the brand felt more immediate and enticing from the first glance. This gave the café a stronger visual foundation and helped create a more cohesive identity across posts.

From there, the content strategy focused heavily on what No.19 does best: exceptional food and coffee. We leaned into imagery and creative that better showcased the menu, while also expanding the format mix to include more carousels and Reels — both of which were designed to improve reach, impressions, and engagement.

Importantly, the tone of the content remained aligned to the venue itself: warm, welcoming, and relatable. Rather than trying to manufacture a personality that didn’t fit, the content simply presented the brand more clearly and more confidently.

We also launched a TikTok presence for the café, giving No.19 access to a more discovery-driven audience and positioning the venue on a platform increasingly used by younger café-goers as a search engine for where to visit next.

Across all channels, the content worked to communicate three things consistently:

  • The quality of the food and drinks
  • The atmosphere of the venue
  • The approachability of the brand

The results

The shift in content quality, consistency, and platform strategy delivered fast and meaningful improvement.

Over the campaign period, No.19 achieved:

  • 674% increase in engagement
  • 163% increase in impressions
  • 244% increase in reach

Beyond the numbers, the brand began to feel more established and more intentional online. The refreshed content improved how No.19 was perceived by its audience, while the introduction of TikTok opened up a new pathway for discovery and visibility.

The result was a social presence that better matched the quality of the in-venue experience — helping No.19 not just post more effectively, but show up more credibly in a competitive café market.

Business Impact

No.19’s social media now does a much better job of what great hospitality marketing should do: make people want to visit.

By elevating the visual standard, improving consistency, and expanding into new formats and platforms, the café has built a stronger digital presence that reflects the quality and personality of the brand itself.

Because in a city like Melbourne, good cafés are everywhere —but the ones people remember are the ones that know how to be seen.
